This is my ninth year doing the RTCC. In the past 8 years our team has raised over $500,000 for cancer research.
My son, Taylor passed away just a few months before his 18th birthday. He bravely fought a brain tumor for 10 years and after the first surgery at 7 years old he was left hemipalegic. He passed away with the same brain tumor as Gord Downie and John McCain. Despite the fantastic improvements in mortalitily rates, brain tumor mortality rates have not budged in the past 20 years. All of the funds that I raise are earmarked for brain cancer research.
He was an awesome, outgoing, gregarious, well loved young man. At 17 years of age though, he still did not think that I had much that could contribute to his life. He knew better than me on just about any topic you could think of including cars and he did not even drive.
Most fathers get a phone call from their son when they are about 21 years old asking for their Dad's opinion or advice on something or other. That phone call never came for me. I do this ride and raise this money so that other fathers can get that phone call.
Please consider donating to help bring an end to this disease taking away our family and friends. Even better, sign up for the ride and raise the money from your contacts. We would love to have you on our team or start a team of your own. I would be happy to coach you.
Just click on the donate button and you are set to go.
