Megan's 2018 Ride to Conquer Fundraising Page
The Ride to Conquer Cancer is a two-day cycling journey, throughout the beautiful Pacific region taking place in August 2018.
I started my journey with the Ride in January 2017. It was a decision motivated by the recent loss of a dear family friends son, Jordan.
What started out as a team of two - my friend Victoria and I - turned into so much more than that. At Jordans memorial service, I met Chris, a childhood friend of Jordan's who shared with me that he would also be doing the ride. Victoria and I decided to join Chris' team.
Riders for Ryder's, a team led by a strong, motivated man who lost his young son Ryder to cancer several years ago.
Being a part of this team was powerful. When we got together for training rides or fundraising nights, you could feel the passion and the motivation behind this cause and at times it was overwhelming.
The day of our pub night in 2017 our teammate Adam received great news - that his 4 year old daughter had beaten cancer and was in remission. This really set the stage for the night and for the remainder of our time together training and raising money. Emma was there alongside Adams wife and son as we crossed the finish line in Seattle and I had the pleasure of spending the evening with her playing tag and hide and go seek (yes! All after riding my bike for 260kms!).
In late 2017, we found out Emma’s cancer was back and in February 2018, 5 year old Emma passed away. It was and still is devastatingly painful and heartbreaking. As a team, we have stood by Adam and his wife and son, to support them in whatever they need. Only time will help with the healing.
Though my journey with the ride has changed, my reason for riding remains the same. Enough is enough. It's time to kick cancers @$$. I ride because I can. I ride so that hopefully one day we don't have to anymore.
So that's my story and I'm sure you have one too. While you may not be able to ride, let me ride on your behalf and on behalf of those you have lost to cancer.
Please consider donating to my page and help support me on this fight (ride).
Thank you in advance for your help.
