Welcome to My Personal Page
I remember at the young age of 7 crying in my elementary school grade 3 class room over a thought of losing my mom. I can remember sleepless nights in fear of losing my parents. Then my worst nightmare set in when I lost my mom to breast cancer. I was only 13 years old and she was only 37 after fighting a 6 year battle with breast cancer, which rapidly spread.
A few years later my Auntie Ev (her sister) was diagnosed with breast cancer. She started the genealogy research for my family. Sadly she passed away after a two year breast cancer battle.
Not too many years after my aunts passing, I found out my moms only living sister had a double mastectomy. While she was recovering from this surgery, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. And had to go through chemotherapy after the preventative surgery.
At the time I did not know that I, myself would be diagnosed with the BRCA1 gene that mutates into cancer. I found this out in 2010 after my two sisters and I went for blood work. Fortunately my sister Brittany does not have it, but my sister Amanda and myself do.
In December of 2013 I lost my Uncle David on my dads side, when he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in his organs. We did not have much time to spend with him as he passed away 6 months after being diagnosed.
All of my close family members fought a battle and I want to show them that their strength made me a stronger person. They showed me life is too short to wait for change to happen, you have to make it happen. If we work together we can end this forever! My family is the reason I am raising money for cancer.
The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting BC Cancer Foundation, is a two-day cycling journey, through the beautiful Pacific region from Vancouver to Seattle, taking place this summer. It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, my helmet, and your generosity, a real impact will be made!
Contribute to this powerful movement with a donation. Funds raised through the Ride to Conquer Cancer will support life-saving research and enhancements to care at the BC Cancer Agency, bringing hope to cancer patients in B.C. and beyond.
