This year I ride for Emma and Josh
However, in November 2017, Emma's cancer returned, and tragically she passed away just 4 months later in March.
I find some comfort in knowing that thanks to all the funds raised through the RTCC and the incredible research the BC Cancer Agency does, Emma lived a few years longer and was able to spend precious time with her family that loves her so much.
I'm also riding in support of the Formosa family in Australia, Di and Tony, their daughter Amy and son Jack.
One of my favourite people, my good friend Josh Formosa, passed away suddenly less than 2 weeks after last year's RTCC. He was diagnosed with primary bowel cancer, was in surgery 4 days later to have a large tumour removed, but unfortunately the doctors discovered that the cancer had spread aggresively and there was nothing they could do.
Josh and I were roommates in our mid-20's, and had some absolutely great times together, whether it be ski trips or backyard BBQ's, and we became great friends. He was the kind of guy that could just pop back into our lives like nothing had changed, like he'd never left (he lived in Australia but would come visit us every couple of years). He had a wild and adventurous spirit and it will live on through his family and friends!
I will continue to ride as long as there are stories like these, of friends and family members lost to this horrible disease. I ride because I CAN and because we WILL beat cancer, once and for all!
The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation is a transformational cycling journey, spanning over two days and 200 kilometers. In August 2018, I'll be taking on the scenic Pacific Northwest in solidarity and promise to show that cancer is no match against our conviction to conquer it.
Funds raised through The Ride for the BC Cancer Foundation will support cancer research, treatment, and services at the BC Cancer Agency, a leader in cancer research and treatment.
So help get me to the start line for the 2018 BC Ride To Conquer Cancer by making a donation today! Thank you for reading and thank you in advance for your support!
