Support Our Ride to Conquer Cancer®
Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP is proud to participate as a “virtual rider” (fundraiser) in The Ride to Conquer Cancer in support of our colleague and friend, Daryl Clark whose memory remains the driving force behind this inspirational challenge. Daryl joined Blakes in Vancouver as a partner in 2002. Over the past 15 years, he and his team, provided exceptional service to his clients and built a great practice. He also generously gave his time to mentor and support the careers of countless young lawyers in our firm.
Three years ago Daryl faced difficult news when he was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer. He fought valiantly, using his indomitable energy and steely determination to study the disease, and to raise awareness and give hope to others who shared his fight. Daryl received the Ted Ticknor Award to mark his contribution and support for those struggling with prostate cancer, and to mark his bravery in his own personal journey, days before he sadly passed on June 17th.
By undertaking this sponsored cycle ride, Daryl’s Heidelburg Hope, a team started by a group of Daryl’s closest friends and allies in his battle against cancer, aims to raise $2.5M in support of a clinical trial for what promises to be a ground-breaking treatment in the fight against prostate cancer. This new treatment, developed in Germany, has had remarkable efficacy rates, and the goal is to bring it to B.C.. Daryl traveled to Germany for this treatment, and showed signs of improvement, however, complications from other, earlier clinical trials conspired against him and he was unable to return for his second session. Daryl’s wish was to bring the Heidelburg treatment to B.C. for formal clinical trials to determine if it would help others, and we, and the other riders, are pursuing this goal on his behalf.
On August 26th - 27th, Daryl’s colleagues and friends will undertake a two-day cycle through the beautiful Pacific region in Daryl’s honour and memory. 100% of the funds raised from the ride will be used to directly fund the clinical trials of the new treatment. With support, the clinical trial could start as early as the Fall of 2017.
In every way and at every turn, Daryl lived by the words “Fight On!”. Shoulder to shoulder with his family and his friends, he fought this disease with great dignity through much suffering. His hope springs eternal.
Please join Blakes in making a contribution to this powerful movement, bringing hope to prostate cancer sufferers in B.C. and a lasting legacy for a great man.
On behalf of the lawyers and staff of Blakes.
FIGHT ON! SHOULDER TO SHOULDER! TOGETHER!
