Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
To friends and family,
On August 26th and 27th, I will be cycling in the Ride to Conquer Cancer from Vancouver to Seattle on team ‘Courage for Lisa’.
Lisa Smith was the mother of one of my closest friends, Haley, and Lisa was a dear friend to my family. As kids, our families would get together often. I knew Lisa as Auntie Lisa. Her “I love you’s”, kisses before bed at Pony Camp, constant encouragement, spontaneity, infectious laugh, lightheartedness, and who can forget the lime margaritas, name just a few of my many memories of Lisa.
Somehow, between raising a beautiful family of five kids, she lived the most active and healthy lifestyle one can imagine.
Lisa was so full of a beautiful energy, something always shared. She spoke her mind, and you would be envious to do the same. She was the superwoman I wanted to be when I grew up.
Lisa was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer in April 2015. Classified as a Gliobastoma Multiforme, her brain tumour was deemed too aggressive and located too deep in her brain to be operable. In the months to follow, I watched as the Smith family battled Lisa's diagnosis together, exasperating multiple forms of treatment. Haley was so strong for her mum, I was in awe. I saw what courage really meant during that time.
Tragically and unbelievably, Lisa passed away in July 2016. An incredible loss for my friend, her family, and all who knew Lisa. But this year we are honouring her and riding as a group to raise money for the very cancer research she needed. Please help me achieve my goal of $2500 with anything that you can. Funds raised through the Ride to Conquer Cancer will support life-saving research and enhancements to care at the BC Cancer Agency, bringing hope to cancer patients in B.C. and beyond. Thank you for all your support in advance!
