Please Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
I am riding in support of Daryl’s Heidelberg Hope and my friends who have been recently be touched by cancer.
We are trying to bring a potential life-saving treatment to British Columbia in the hope that it could save Daryl and the lives of those with with metastatic prostate cancer. The team’s goal is to raise over a half a million dollars towards a $4mm budget ($1.5mm has already been raised!)
Aptly named, Daryl’s Heidelberg Hope, this is a new treatment developed in Germany that has had tremendous efficacy rates, and we want to bring it to BC.
75% of patients who were given two to four months to live were not only alive six months after receiving the treatment, their tumours had shrunk and they had lower levels of PSMA in their blood. The really great thing is that this treatment kills cancer cells wherever they reside – the bones, lymph nodes, soft tissue organs or simply in the bloodstream.
The team has met with Sarah Roth, CEO of the BC Cancer Foundation and Dr. Francois Benard, head of Research at the BC Cancer Agency many times. We have their full commitment (this will be a collaboration with BCCA, VGH and UBC), a defined budget with deliverables and a timeline. The intent is to start two clinical trials in the Fall.
The Ride to Conquer Cancer will be August 26 and 27th from Vancouver to Seattle, but the race begins today! Thanks very much for your support!
Sadly on June 17th, 2017 Daryl finally found the rest and reprieve that he so deserves. Daryl passed away in an environment he cherished (his own bedroom, beautiful view, fresh breeze off the Sound) surrounded by those that he loved, both family and friends. Although under difficult circumstances, it was a lovely and dignified departure.
Daryl’s family brought him more comfort, pride and pleasure than anything else in his life. Daryl was a true Renaissance man and a gentleman respected and loved.
In honour of Daryl the cause will go on and other lives will be saved. Please see the Heidelberg Hope team page for more of Daryl's inspiration!
