The Ride to Conquer Cancer will be a first for me ... a new challenge. I was out for a training ride yesterday, a route that I had not ridden before and consequently did not know exactly what to expect in terms of difficulty. Around 2/3 way through the training ride I found myself talking to myself saying "I'm so done with riding up this hill". That said by a guy who for the most part likes riding up hills. It was a relentless climb no doubt, but the thought occured to me, those suffering with Cancer, they probably feel the same way and they're not just out for a training ride. That's their daily life. I was embarassed by my own self pity. Here I was out riding a bike, which I love to do. The pain I was going through could not compare.
These days it's pretty hard not to either have someone in your family or close to you who has suffered with Cancer. For me it's my Mom. She was lucky it was detected early and removed through surgery. Although more recently she had a scare when symptoms suggested that it may have returned. Thankfully it had not, but it wasn't hard to see the fear.
We talk about The Ride to Conquer Cancer as being a challenge, and perhaps it is. I would prefer to think of it as a humble contribution to helping those close to me and others, from having to endure the suffering which Cancer inflicts.
Finally, please consider making a donation. I will personally match all contributions made to my fund (to a limit of $5000 total).
Thank you in advance for your help.
