A New Journey
CHANGE PROMOTES GROWTH....is a motto I have shared with my son since he was old enough to understand what it meant. Life ebbs and flows but everytime we embrace any form of change it provides forward momentum into something new. It can be small or big, devastating or enlightening and often highly personal.
When he was 14 months old and we were at Childrens Hospital having Skeletal Xrays (due to extremely slow bone growth), I thought our life was being turned upside down, until I discovered our waiting room was adjacent the Pediatric Oncology Department. As I sat watching these families embrace all the heartache I realized they too have had to learn to grow through all the changes their families were being forced to embrace. I was amazed at the courage these kids displayed as they wandered the hallways with the clatter of the IV pole dragging behind them. Positive Attitude and smile in check.
Fast forward 20 Years. My wonderful Father - diagnosed with NH Lymphoma at 75, not once but twice - battled back both times. I am convinced his ability to always accept Change promoted his Growth back to health. Positive Mental Attitude in Check still today at 84 years young.
I approach this ride with a bit of fear, and not because my strapping thighs are already screaming at me, and not because the fear of seeing myself in bike shorts, but more because it's something new. So - as I hit the last key stroke on this post, I say to myself "Change Promotes Growth" and to all those fealing fear of this ride, let's do this thing.
I thank you in advance for your encouragement.
