Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
Each one of us knows someone, a family member, a friend or a mentor that has been taken from us too soon because of this terrible disease. I have always wanted to participate in this event, but it never seemed like the right time, but when is the right time? For me, 2017 is the year. I realized that for something this important you have to make the time.
We have put together a team of 20 members of the Victoria Fire Department who all ride for someone special loved or lost. Rich Fryer put this team together, in honour of retired Chief Doug Angrove who is currently battling brain cancer.
My Mom had ovarian cancer while she was pregnant with me. She didn’t tell my Dad because she was afraid that he would want her to terminate the pregnancy so that she could get started with treatment right away. She already had a Daughter and she was determined to have her Son. After I was born they took her from the delivery room directly into surgery where she had to have a complete hysterectomy.
Since then she has had over 20 treatments and surgeries for different types of cancer and she has beaten them every time. She is currently living with Leukemia and she fights every day. I am so glad to say that I still have my Mom and that she was with us to meet our Son when he was born. I know that not everyone is that lucky. She risked her life to bring me into this world.
I ride for everyone I know who has lost a loved one to cancer. I ride for my Mom. We ride for Doug.
