Thank You for Supporting My Ride to Conquer Cancer
My Personal Ride for Research and Treatment of the Scourge of Cancer
Like so many others, the scourge of cancer has affected me in many ways. I am riding in memory of my father who had prostate and skin cancer, my mother who died from lung cancer, my aunt who died from breast cancer and my sister-in-law who died from multiple myeloma. I am also riding to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors - sister (breast cancer), father-in-law (colon cancer) and brother-in-law (prostate cancer).
But . . . even more specifically . . . I am dedicating my ride to my grandson Jeremiah. He was diagnosed with cancer of the retina at only 18 month’s old. Retinoblastoma is a rare form of cancer that usually hits children under the age of 5, it often starts in one eye and spreads to the other and it is the most common malignant (fatal) cancer of the eye. Family members noticed an unusual shine in Jeremiah’s right eye. This shine was then seen by his parents and only a few days later his cancer was diagnosed and his eye was removed.
Jeremiah’s cancer was already far advanced when diagnosed, with his retina completely detached from his eye, providing a clear path for the spread of the cancer to other parts of his body. The prayers of people in Prince George and around the world asked God for miracle and Jeremiah is alive and well today and looking forward to his 10th birthday!
