Sam's Ride - In memory of Yong-Ki Lee
2017 is a special year for my family and me as it marks the 20th anniversary of my father Rev Yong-Ki Lee’s passing after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. And while twenty years have passed, it feels that we are no closer to a solution for this largely incurable strain of cancer. I often feel anger, frustration, helplessness over our inability to find a cure especially given all the attention and funding that this disease receives. While I acknowledge that these feelings are more emotional than logical, they still consume me and have remained with me to this very day.
So why am I doing the Ride? I want to challenge myself to think positively and take more control over my emotions. I want to honour my father and celebrate his 1.5 year battle, an incredible feat back then. I want to support my friends riding alongside me, a number of whom have lost loved ones to cancer. Finally, I trust this proven organization that supports life-saving research and enhancements to care at the BC Cancer Agency, bringing hope to cancer patients and their families
