Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
Welcome to Kelly Nystedt's Personal Page! The Ride to Conquer Cancer presented by Silver Wheaton benefiting BC Cancer Foundation, is a two-day cycling journey, through the beautiful BC Pacific region taking place in Aug 26-27. 2017. It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, my helmet, and your generosity, a real impact will be made!
Everyone has their personal reason for taking on this challenge. It is with great pride that I am riding in honour of my father, Joseph Nelson Downey, who passed away of lung cancer on July 8, 2016. There are many other family and friends and colleagues close to my heart who have also been impacted by the diagnosis of cancer including my mother, my grandmother, my grandfather, my aunt, my uncle, my father in law, my mother in law, my dear friend and mentor, a teammate's young child, colleagues, and myself. Unfortunately I could go on and on, as cancer continues to take it's toll on all of us.
My father taught me that with determination and effort, I could accomplish anything I set out to. I am not a cyclist. Those who know me well, know that soccer has been my lifelong passion. To complete this ride successfully, I have had to learn how to wear a different kind of cleats (with clips!) and without falling off my bike! I have failed more than once and have a few scars. However each time I fall, I know that I have to get up and keep riding - for you Dad, and for all my loved ones who have been impacted by this insidious disease. I can and will make a difference.
We all have our reason! Please join me and this great cause and consider contributing to this powerful movement with a donation. Funds raised through the Ride Conquer Cancer will support life-saving research and enhancements to care at the BC Cancer Agency, bringing hope to cancer patients in B.C. and beyond.
I graciously ask each one of you that reads this story to consider contributing in some way. Share this page with your family, your friends, your colleagues. Join the ride, volunteer, donate. You too can make a difference. Together we all can.
Thank you in advance for your support.
