Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
Welcome to my Personal Page! The Ride to Conquer Cancer presented by Silver Wheaton benefiting BC Cancer Foundation, is a two-day cycling journey, through the beautiful Pacific region taking place in the summer.
The BC Cancer Foundation is a cause I feel very strongly about supporting. Like most of you I've had people around me affected by this awful disease. I have lost 2 Aunts and 2 Uncles, my Father and an Uncle survived prostate cancer. I've had co-workers and neighbors affected as well. In the last 6 months two friends have been diagnosed with cancer (one of them is just 32 years old). I have observed family members and friends face their fight with amazing strength, grace and sometimes humor. Not having walked in their shoes I can't begin to fathom the fear, anxiety and pain they experience.
In the past I have made donations, fundraised by participating in some runs and supported others in their fundraising efforts. I know a few people who have participated in the Ride and truly admired their committment to the cause but couldn't imagine doing it myself.
Last year a running friend and her husband (Amber and Dean) participated in the Ride for the first time. It was such an amazing experience that they signed up to do it again this year and began actively recruiting for their team (Team Big Lug). They and another running friend (Cynthia) "encouraged" (actually coerced may be more accurate) me into agreeing to join them for this EPIC adventure.
So I must be a bit crazy. Why you ask, because I have agreed to participate in the Ride this year and have committed to ride a bike 250 kms over 2 days as well as doing some major fundraising and I haven't ridden a bike in over 25 years!! My friends have assured me I can do this. I know it will be a difficult challenge but nothing compared to what a person battling cancer experiences.
I purchased a bike and some gear and named my bike Jax to go along with my friend Cynthia and her bike Max. I'll begin riding immediately to get used to being in the saddle. Serious training is set to begin in April.
I look forward to participating in an event that can help make a huge difference to so many lives. Funds raised through the Ride to Conquer Cancer will support life-saving research and enhancements to care at the BC Cancer Agency, bringing hope to cancer patients in B.C. and beyond.
I'd like to ask you all to to help contribute to this powerful movement with a donation. Let's make this year's Ride EPIC!!
Thank you in advance for your assistance!
