Hoping for a world without cancer
I started this journey to join The Ride, by being a cheerleader on the side lines for the past two years, watching friends and family come across the finish line. I finally worked up the nerve to sign up at the finish line last year to take on the epic two days of cycling from Vancouver to Seattle to raise money for a cause that has been a part of my life for a long time.
That dreaded ‘C’ word - Cancer has hit way to close to home too many times. First starting with my Grandmother being diagnosed back in 2000, but not really understanding at a young age what that meant. She went on to beat the cancer and is still in remission. Cancer later affected my life dramatically when a dear friend, mentor, and coach lost her 8 year battle back in 2010, and I saw the true colours of this disease. It then hit home again, back in 2013 when a close family friend was diagnose with cancer and later lost her battle in 2015.
After watching my friends and family have the courage to take on this 2 day quest to not only ride, but to raise money for a cause that affects so many, I decided to join alongside them with the hope that one day we are going to be cancer free.
I am asking for your assistance in this journey by helping me raise a minimum of $2,500 to join Team Saving 2nd Base and complete The Ride. Team Saving 2nd Base includes my parents Perry and Cheryl Simpson, my boyfriend Scott Harder, Daryl Edwards, and Jason Darby. And we have set out to complete this task together through fundraising, training and eventually finishing The Ride. Like so many that the dreaded ‘C’ affects, our hope is that one day this world will be a place without cancer.
