Welcome to My Page for the 2017 Ride to Conquer Cancer!
Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
As you may know, this August will be the 4th time I am supporting the Ride to Conquer Cancer. I am aiming to raise $2500 for the BC Cancer Foundation and cycle the >200-km route between Vancouver and Seattle.
What is the Ride to Conquer Cancer? A 2-day cycling mission through the beautiful Pacific Northwest to celebrate and cap off an ambitious fundraising season for the BC Cancer Foundation. Over the last 8 years, this event has raised > $77 million towards cancer research and patient care.
Why am I doing this Ride? As the daughter of a cancer survivor, I know that cancer affects everyone and we need to put up a fight. As a science researcher, I know how much of a difference money can make to advance research & treatments. And because I've done this Ride before, I know how incredible the event and its purpose are. I've dealt with injuries this year that could have prevented me from doing this, but I am determined to do this Ride!
Why support me? You might know me personally or sympathize with my reasons, and I am ready to do this for you and the BC Cancer Foundation! I have biked nearly 700 km so far to train for the Ride and am continuing to train and help my teammates.
Why support the Ride & BC Cancer Foundation? The beneficiary: “The BC Cancer Foundation is the largest funder of cancer research in the province and is on a mission to reduce the incidence of cancer, reduce the mortality rate of people with cancer and improve the quality of life of people living with cancer.”
What have >$77 M Ride to Conquer Cancer funds accomplished so far?
- Supported more than 47 projects, investigating > 50 different cancer types.
- Enabled > 300 patients to enrol in the Personalized Onco-Genomics Program.
- Supported the construction of a provincial hub for developing immunotherapies.
- Supported the Canadian development of a diagnostic gene panel, with > 2000 BC cancer patients eligible annually.
- Enhanced brain cancer care.
- Supported a new drug for advanced prostate cancer to enter clinical trials.
- Purchased a second state-of-the-art PET/CT scanner, decreasing wait times.
This event will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, my helmet, and your generosity, I am confident that a real impact will be made!
Contribute to this powerful movement with a donation. Funds raised through the Ride to Conquer Cancer will support life-saving research and enhancements to care at the BC Cancer Agency, bringing hope to cancer patients in BC and beyond.
