Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
Hello and welcome to my Ride to Conquer Cancer (RtCC) page!
If you are here and don't know what's going on, I have signed up for a bike-a-thon that is for the purpose of raising money for the BC Cancer Foundation. My team, "PET ProjeCT", is raising money to help bring a PET/CT scanner to the Vancouver Island Cancer Centre!
There are over a thousand patients every year that need to travel to Vancouver for a PET scan; with numerous other patients who cannot make the trip due to being too ill. Not only does this put more of a financial burden on the patient but, as alluded to earlier, can be very stressful for an already ill patient as well as their families.
I am very excited to support this initiative because a PET scan can be a powerful tool for a patient as it can provide crucial information to doctors. This can lead to altering a treatment plan to something more effective for the patient. As mentioned above, there are patients who miss out because they are too ill to travel and this will hopefully lead to better access for more patients. Another reason I support this is because having a PET/CT scanner on the island can help alleviate the already long wait-lists that exists on the mainland. In other words, this can potentially speed up the process of getting a PET scan for patients, which in turn could affect their treatment plans going forward.
The ride will take place on the last weekend of August (August 26-27, 2017) and will stretch from Vancouver to Seattle (more specifics can be found at the link below). My goal is to raise $2500 before the day of the ride.
Although I have participated in biking fundraisers in the past (Ride for Refuge), I've never participated in anything as big as the RtCC. I would be truly grateful if you would support this new endeavour of mine: whether it be through donations, words of encouragement or prayer.
In closing, thank you for taking the time to read this message. I hope you have a wonderful day and God bless!
