Please Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
The 2015 ride was my 4th to conquer cancer and another truly memorable weekend at the end of August. Summer in the pacific North West ended that weekend with an epic storm that brought down trees and power lines but could not stop the will of over 2,000 cyclists to make a difference. I'm a research scientist at Canada's Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre, a department of the BC Cancer Agency. As cancer is a genetic disease our work involves the molecular characterization of tumour genomes to identify differences, or mutations, within the cancer cells that distinguish them from healthy cells. The effect of these mutations provide targets for precision medicines with potential to destroy cancer cells with minimal toxicity to healthy cells. The research is exciting and I believe holds much promise for patients. This year I'm excited to be riding with my friends and colleagues of the Genome Sciences Centre in the Genome Super Cyclists team. The funds we raise will be used to support the BC Cancer Agency's Personalized Oncogenomics (POG) project, a world leading cancer research project providing hope to our cancer patients (http://www.cbc.ca/natureofthings/features/everything-you-need-to-know-about-pog-personalized-oncogenomics-program).
