John Vani's Ride to Conquer Cancer CHAPTER 2
PLEASE SUPPORT MY RIDE TO CONQUER CANCER(R)
Welcome to the Personal Page of John Vani !
Hello all and thank you for visiting my personal page. I am very aware of how late I am in starting my efforts and truly, up untill a few days ago I was not sure I would participate this year. There seemed to be so many reasons....out of control work life...busy with our renovation...lack of training time...
I landed in Ontario a few days ago and was met with the news that cancer was taking yet another member of our extended family and realized that the disease was marching on succesfully while I was making excuses for not helping to fight.
So now, at this moment, there are 4 people who are close to me and mine, who's lives are forever altered by the disease we want to conquer. For three of these people there is no hope for reversal, no drugs to take, no radiation, no chemo, only the wait. The time to visit with love ones, to get married to the one they love or to lie in their room and await a fate that will forever change those around them. And for Mary Ann... the continuing fight and an unfailing hope that the miracle could be hers..
One of these four, who I have only known for three years, has changed my life so measurably, that to do the ride once a year in her name would not be enough of a recognition.
Jill has helped me find an inner soul I thought lost to the rigors of every day life. Those Saturday mornings will always be etched in my memory as some of my most positive moments.
As always we remember too many who we have lost to this insidious disease and pledge to work harder to honour their names.
To those who fight on bravely, please be assured we acknowledge your determination and pray for the best outcome.
To those who seem to have successfully averted the worst of consequences, but are still forced to live with a lingering doubt, i ride for my Wife Liz and our Son Aaron.
Liz and I believe strongly that we can be part of positive outcomes and do our best to support charities that focus on people that are close to us. This event exemplifie's that belief. We have made a commitment to MATCH EVERY DOLLAR WE COLLECT so as to have the most impact possible.
It is always difficult to reach out to friends and associates and we do so knowing very well that not all can commit for very many reasons. We understand and appreciate what you do in your own way for your own causes. We expect nothing and appreciate anything.....
Ths year again, I will be riding with my friends from Cafe Al Mercato in West Vancouver. Doug Grisdale and his team have been amazing supporters of this effort and i thank them for letting me join them.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Sincerely John and Liz Vani
