Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
I am riding for the 2nd time in 2017. August 26 and 27.
Having done the ride once I now have to admit my motivation has changed somewhat. It has always been about battling cancer. When I signed up it was also about giving myself a physical challenge to meet. On the ride last August I met cancer survivors, family members and friends that shared their experiences with this disease and made the fight even more real to me.
In July 2012 Karen’s cousin Paul passed away from a rapidly-growing malignant brain tumour. There was nothing the family could do except watch. The family could not help Paul
While I was fundraising for 2016 a friend of Karen and myself was experiencing her own cancer battle. It touched me greatly when that friend made a donation to help.
On the ride cancer survivors have a yellow flag on their bikes. I rode with several of them. Their stories of their cancer battle and determination to put an end to the suffering was inspiring. At one point we were climbing a hill and one survivor commented that “This hill was nothing compared to fighting cancer!” That kind of knocked the wind out of me. It made me realize that my motivation for joining in the beginning was somewhat selfish. Well not anymore!
We are all touched by cancer in our families, friends, or acquaintances. We are not helpless in fighting against it. I have signed up to do the ride again. Will you come along side with financial support? Click on the large yellow and blue “Donate Now” button in the upper right hand corner of this page and donate $5, $25, $100, $250, more, less, or whatever you can in this fight to stop cancer from taking away from us the people that we love.
