Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
Welcome to my Personal Page! The Ride to Conquer Cancer presented by Silver Wheaton benefiting BC Cancer Foundation, is a two-day cycling journey, through the beautiful Pacific region taking place in the summer. It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, my helmet, and your generosity, a real impact will be made!
This ride could not be more timely for me. I lost my brother, John, July 27, 2015, at age 57. He's the one in the top left, with his 7 sibs and our mom and dad, on the eve before his wedding. I am number eight of eight and John was 3 years ahead of me. It seems incredible to all of us sibs that he is gone but his spirit and strength is in our hearts and will never be lost and will be with me every inch of this ride.
Our dad died of cancer as well, in 2001. I don't think there are many people whose lives have not been touched by this terrible disease. I truly believe that if we all pull together and give what ever we can, when ever we can, we will one day, HOPEFULLY SOON, conquer cancer.
In 1982 I cycled from Victoria, B.C. to St. John's, Newfoundland with 2 friends. Myself and one other had severe knee problems going through Ontario and while were cycling near ThunderBay, they were unveiling the statue to Terry Fox. They had also dedicated a portion of the Transcanada Hwy to him, calling it the "Terry Fox Courage Highway". As we cycled passed the signs honouring Terry, suddenly our painful knees didn't seem so painful anymore. It was a very thoughtful time for the 3 of us, we knew Terry from going to Simon Fraser University. We cycled along "his highway", together, holding Terry's courage in our hearts. We were deeply moved and inspired. That memory will always be with me.
Please do contribute to this powerful movement with a donation. Funds raised through the Ride to Conquer Cancer will support life-saving research and enhancements to care at the BC Cancer Agency, bringing hope to cancer patients in B.C. and beyond.
I'm riding for you, Johnny Boy and Pops xoxo
