Welcome to My Personal Page
Dear Family, Friends, and Colleagues,
This weekend I will be participating as a rider in the 2017 Ride to Conquer Cancer which is a two-day 250km ride to Seattle, raising awareness and funds for the BC Cancer Foundation. Funds directly support clinicians, scientists, and researchers seeking new discoveries to better diagnose and treat cancer, as well as improve post-treatment care.
My first time participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer was 2016 – I dedicated my ride to my Aunt, Lorna Delves. Lorna is a cancer survivor and continues the fight every day with the after-effects of treatment.
I remember being very young (and very small) visiting the-then Delves residence in Slocan, BC. I have a fuzzy memory of arriving at the home and seeing my Uncle Lloyd, my Friendly Giant, in the big green yard with huge trees. More recently, I remember him together with Lorna two years ago in a small church amongst the trees in rural Aldergrove celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family, re-enacting the wedding with the same Pastor that married them the first time. It was a beautiful moment and I remarked I wished I could see another milestone anniversary.
It brings me sadness to have learned today, August 24th, that Lorna’s husband and my Uncle, Lloyd Delves, has been diagnosed with cancer. Lloyd was volunteer fire fighter for most of his life, and I know he is strong. He will fight as fires were fought and he will win.
This year is my second time participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer – I dedicate my ride to Lloyd Delves.
