My Bike Ride!
Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
So this year I have commenced my 60th year, and I have decided to do and achieve things that my younger years excused me from with atypical excuses like 'no time', 'no money', 'other things to do', etc. With the kids in their own flock, my remaining energy, passion and enthusiasm for outdoor activities has recently been directed to road performance cycling.
I've tied this passion in with surprise events that occured over the last few years - my dad getting the news he had cancer and living just another 5 months, my young brother-in-law surviving stage 4 lymphoma and now in remission thanks to new treatments, my cousin taken by colon cancer. We probably all know someone close that has had a shorter life because of cancer.
I bought my bike in September 2015 (after last year's Ride to Conquer which I was a volunteer for) and since then have been training quite seriously with the objective of being fit and ready for multiple long distance fast rides in 2016 and hopefully longer. I wanted to link this passion into contributing to good things for the future.
The "Ride to Conquer Cancer" benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation, is a two-day cycling sportive, riding from Vancouver to Seattle, taking place on August 27 & 28. Distance will be 120km each day. I have joined up with TeamBMO (Bank of Montreal) as Hong-Cheng works with many on the team and will be providing mobile support along the route. It will be a challenge for me in many ways, but with my bike and your generosity, a real impact will be made!
Last year. there were almost 4,000 riders, raising over $8MM for cancer research and care, funded by this Foundation. They provide funding for R&D that has had, and will have global impact!
Please contribute to this powerful movement with a donation, at the same time helping me achieve my goals for this event.
Thank you in advance for your help and generosity.
