Third time's a charm!
So, I'm back for my third year doing the Ride to Conquer. The first year was about closure and proving something to myself. It was a challenge both emotionally and physically. The ride started off in the pouring rain as we rode into the storm. Here's a photo gallery of the damage that was done during that storm - http://bc.ctvnews.ca/windstorm-rips-trees-from-ground-across-metro-vancouver-1.2539174. It was quite a journey and I think everyone's dedication was put to the test. But we made it!
It was an incredible feeling to cross that finish line with our team. Downed trees littered the course and a wonderful crew helped us avoid various hazards including power lines and traffic accidents.
The second year was about brushing myself off and doing it again. The weather was gorgeous and our entire team had a blast. I can't imagine a better way to spend a weekend. When riding I thought of all the people in my life affected by cancer and was continually moved by the survivors riding and the cheering sections at every town.
This year it's going to be about sharing that experience. Team CTV will likely pass the $1,000,000 mark and has one of the biggest teams we've ever had. What an amazing group effort to make a difference! I plan to ride to share the feeling of teamwork, awareness, and fighting back. Also, the for the beer at the finish line!
Please help me reach my goal of $2,500 and feel free to share your reasons so that I can keep them in mind as inspiration while I ride again.
