Welcome to my 2017 Personal Page for The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation. This is my third year participating in the ride, which is a two-day, 240+ km cycling journey in B.C. and Washington State in late August. It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, my helmet, and your generosity, a real impact will be made!
Although I have not had to have any treatment for my personal experience with cancer, I am under the watchful eyes of the team in Kelowna, where several friends are currently receiving treatment. I am riding this year specifically for Robin and Iris, whose journeys have certainly been more challenging than my own, and for Vern Nielsen - who lost his battle in January of this year. Looking back on my diagnosis in 2012 and my initial expectations regarding my health I feel very fortunate to be able to ride in this event.
It has been four and a half years since I heard those three dreaded words "you have cancer". I ride with the knowledge that the dollars raised through this event are making a big impact on research and treatment for lymphoma and other cancers in a very significant way.
My first year on the ride was EPIC to say the least, with intense rain and wind so powerful that the ride was actually suspended for the first time in history. My second year was much less eventful, with perfect weather for riding and great team spirit and support. Year three promises to bring its own unique story and I am looking forward to challenging the route once again.
Please consider contributing to this powerful movement with a donation. Funds raised through the Ride to Conquer Cancer will support life-saving research and enhancements to care at the BC Cancer Agency, bringing hope to cancer patients in B.C. and beyond. My goal is to raise $3500, and any contribution you can make to help me achieve or exceed that goal is very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your support.
