Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
As you may or may not know, my family has been significantly touched by cancer. I have lost my mother to cancer when I was 10 years of age, I sadly never had the opportunity to meet my grandma Joan, and I lost my aunt Moira a few years ago. Alongside with my brother and father we developed a bond that will never be broken. My father has always referred to us as a tripod. When we all succeed, we stand tall together even in the brink of pain, and we all fall, when one is broken.
Recently, someone special has come into my life, my step-mom, Debbie. My new family has also been touched by cancer with the loss of Peter Marsh, Debbie’s husband and Heather Cardinal, Debbie’s extended-kids mother. I know many of my friends and colleagues have been touched in the same way by this dreaded disease. We are either a survivor; we are fighting our way through this disease; we have lost loved ones to it; or we are caring for a loved one with cancer at this very moment. No matter where we are in this sphere, we know that embarking on this ride is only a glimpse of what those fighting cancer are going through emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually.
For the 2nd year now, I am participating in The Ride to Conquer Cancer, a 260 km cycling advent through the Pacific Northwest to raise money for cancer research. I am going to overcome all adversity and injury I have succumbed to over the past years and push passed my biggest block, my mind. With the hopes to raise a significant amount of money to make a difference someone battling cancer. I am telling you this because I believe you agree with me that even modest headways in research give us hope for the future……A Cancer Free FUTURE!!
The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation will directly support leading clinicians, scientists, and researchers whose search for new discoveries and improved patient outcomes will have a real impact in our communities throughout the province, across Canada, and around the world. It is a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, my helmet, your support and your generosity, a significant impact can be made!
Having only done this race once before, I have already raised over $3,000.00 individually and I am looking to increase that amount considerably, to $10,000. I am counting on you and trust that you will help me support this worthwhile because as I am joining my father, Perry Hoogveld, in dedicating this years ride to my step-cousin Josh (UCO Bronchos#4) who is also fighting this horrible disease as we speak. I will be joining my dad in that all my proceeds for my ride will go towards Testicular Cancer in Josh's name.
I want you to know that I appreciate those that join with me in this small effort to help. We all do our part where we can and when we are able to, therefor, even good wishes are appreciated.
