Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
Many of you have received this email every year, a few times over, for the past 8 years – thank you all for your continued generous support.
With the Ride 15 days away and still short of my fundraising goal, I thought I would talk about why it is I ride.
Yes, I ride for Suzanne, my mom who lost her battle to cancer years ago; or for my friend Derek’s uncle Michael who continues to fight leukemia; or for the many many friends and family who have also been affected by this disease…. But I thought I would take some time to talk about a brave 7 year old girl named Ursula Joy from Hornby Island.
I met her parents Michael and Ceridwen while at MEC preparing for the Ride two years ago. They told me about Ursula’s fight with a rare form of brain cancer: Grade 3 Anaplastic Ependynoma – a tumor that grows in her cerebral spinal fluid. Since being Diagnosed at 18 months old, Urusla has endured 3 brain surgeries, hundreds of blood transfusions, dozens of MRI’s and numerous rounds of Chemotherapy and yet she still continues to fight. There are few available treatments left for Ursula outside of palliative care but she continues to be an amazing, energetic 7 year old kid who loves swimming, climbing and playing with her sisters.
I ride for her -- I am dedicating my ride and fundraising efforts to Ursula Joy.
Thank you for your support.
