Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
Up until April 2013, I had barely ever ridden a bike. But with weekly Sunday morning rides, I prepared for what would be one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences of my life. I was expecting poor weather and a brutal bike ride. Instead, the sun was shining and the ride from Vancouver to Seattle was beautiful, and the energy and emotion felt through every other rider on the road made the 235km an amazing journey.
I didn't know what I was getting in to when I bought a bike and started training for that year's ride. I figured it would be a one-time thing I could cross off my list. But when the ride ended on Sunday I was already excited for the next year. Biking has become so much more than burning quads and stiff shoulders. I will continue participating in this ride until it no longer exists and cancer is conquered.
Some years we're met with torrential downpour, some years we're met with brutal windstorms. This is Vancouver, and I know better than to expect perfect weather. I will gladly wear my booties and rain jacket and ride through a storm if it means I can make even a fraction of a difference in the fight against cancer.
Cancer is a relentless disease that has effected everyone. I am riding for every person who has fought, or watched a loved one fight cancer.
