Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer®
Well, it is that time of year again! I am writing to solicit a donation to my ride in the Ride to Conquer Cancer. This will be the last year that this event courses through the Pacific Northwest down to Seattle by bicycle as next year will be a “made-in-Canada” route to Hope and back. Thus, the weekend of August 26-27th this year will be a special event.
I have covered a lot of miles along different routes in the lower mainland but the Ride to Conquer Cancer is always a personal highlight as a way to raise funds for a cause that is incredibly important. I absolutely do not wish to impose on you in an inappropriate manner so only if this is a cause that is meaningful to yourself, I would ask you to contribute to this event that will benefit the BC Cancer Foundation. Funds raised will support cancer research here in British Columbia. I will be riding again with our ovarian cancer research team, OvCare, for the seventh year in a row. Our team includes investigators, graduate students, clinicians, learners, patients and families, all of whom are committed to reducing the burden of cancer in Canada. Some of the cyclists are elite riders, some are “weekend warriors” and others are survivors doing this “from the heart”.
This does have a further personal note. Professionally, I continue to work with the surgical team at Vancouver General Hospital and the BC Cancer Agency as a gynecological oncologist and I am reminded every day of the impact of this disease. In addition, like most of you, we have had cancer affect our family in significant ways (fathers, mother, grandparents and others – we must have a bad p53 gene!) and are pleased to play a small role in contributing to the end of this disease. I know that we all receive solicitations like this regularly so please only consider this if this is a cause that is important to yourself. I have attached a url weblink to my personal site so as to allow you to make a contribution to cancer research if you wish. Personally, I want thankyou very much in advance. Best regards. Gavin
