Please Support My 2017 Ride to Conquer Cancer!
Hello there again! My name is Angela Cullen Spooner. Welcome to my Personal Page for the 2017 Ride to Conquer Cancer!
I am so honored and excited to be participating in my 10th Ride to Conquer Cancer! All of these rides and the funds raised from them make a HUGE DIFFERENCE in the progress of cancer research, diagnosis and treatment. I have personally witnessed the positive outcomes of this fundraising over the past several years...but we still have a lot of work to be done in order to find a cure for all cancers! This important cause affects me both personally and professionally in my day to day life and with my patients in my Family Practice. 2017 has indeed been a challenging year so far with many new cancer diagnoses and deaths.
Funds raised from the Ride To Conquer Cancer go immediately to support breakthrough research, cutting edge treatment, and compassionate care made possible through The BC Cancer Foundation, a world class leader in this field. For me, attending lectures about the current research done by scientists, learning of new diagnostic equipment being used and seeing first-hand the improvements in survivor numbers and outcomes over these past 10 years makes me want to continue to work and train diligently hard for this very important cause!
And cancer doesn't take a break, so why should I? At least once a week I am breaking very sad news of a new cancer diagnosis to one of my patients.... Its everywhere around us; friends, neighbours, my family...Its effects are both very difficult and heartwrenching to witness...it leaves me feeling powerless and somewhat overwhelmed at times...so I DO what I CAN DO and that is to RIDE!!!
Since early January I have been pedaling furiously through the snow and slush on my fat tire bike and now that the weather has improved, I am out on my road bike getting fully prepared once again to battle this relentless foe rain or shine!
I truly appreciate all of the generous support given to me and ultimately to The BC Cancer Foundation these past 10 rides..You have certainly all helped to make a major difference! I have committed to raise as much money as I can once again for the 2017 Ride to Conquer Cancer. My personal challenge is to increase awareness and to raise $17,000 for this years total.
...And I'll again be riding with the names of over 300 family members, patients and friends (names supplied by YOU) that have been affected by cancer, on a waterproof strip taped to the top tube of my bike..
When the going gets tough amid those unpredictable elements both in training and also during the actual event...those gusty winds and cold driving rains..sometimes kilometer after kilometer... I'll keep pedaling, thinking of those dear people in all of your lives and mine affected by cancer... People like my 2011 original ride inspiring patient who sadly lost her hard fought battle against colon cancer 6 years ago now and other friends and patients who are no longer with us...as well as for those who have been newly diagnosed and are now bravely undergoing their treatments since my 2016 ride...I pedal for them all... and it is because of people such as these friends and patients that it has become SO important for me to continue to do what I can do to help to find a cure for all cancers.
So I am trying to get the word out again here this year with only 2 DAYS to go until the 2017 BC Ride to Conquer Cancer weekend!
I would ask that you consider contributing to this ongoing history-making event and very worthy cause with a donation please. No amount is too small! Together we can all make a difference! Please donate now if you can using the links within this page.
Thank you in advance for your support on my very important and relentless quest...
To support research, treatment, prevention and ultimately to END ALL CANCER!!!
