Derek's Road to the 2017 Ride to Conquer Cancer
Another Inspiring Year on the Ride to Conquer Cancer
After taking a year off in 2015 and having to regretfully not ride in 2016, I am excited to finally be back for my 6th year as part of TEAM CTV for the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Looking back at, it has been a journey that I could never have dreamt of.
As many of you know, my cousin Karen passed away from Cancer in October of 2009, and it was seeing what she went through and wanting to do something to help change what could be done for cancer patients, that I first decided to get involved.
Over that time I have been able to raise over $13,000 as a member of Team CTV, and have been part of a group that has raised over $850,000 in our efforts for the BC Cancer Foundation. It is amazing to be part of the team again and see new individuals leading the way, and once again having the chance to be joined by friends who I can share in this experience with.
I honestly can't say how this Ride, this Event, has impacted my life, through my relationships with people, taking on a new sport, and most importantly, meeting so many incredible people who are fighting with cancer, or are putting their time and effort towards finding a way to conquer it.
This year TEAM CTV has the goal to hit over $1,000,000 in donations raised by our team over the 9 years we have been involved in the ride. Your donations are always greatly appreciated, but more so is knowing I have people like you in my life who have made caring for this cause with me a shared experience that I won't forget.
Thanks for all of your help and I look forward to seeing you at the finish line.
