This year will be our 9th year participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Each year our team is inspired by friends and family that have been affected by cancer. All of us have been touched in some way.
Inspiration can be found in many places and this year our inspiration is a friend who recently passed away, not from cancer, but from a brain aneurysm. Russ Cook was a friend and colleague and is the man most responsible for the Horny Goats joining the Ride to Conquer Cancer. After riding in the very first ever RTCC in Toronto in 2008, Russ proposed that we enter a team in the inaugural Vancouver-Seattle RTCC in 2009. Little did we know then, that 9 years later the Horny Goats would have raised an incredible $3.7M.
With the funds we have raised over the last 8 years, we have funded groundbreaking research that is making a difference in patient outcomes. BC is a world leader in cancer research and we are making progress. An example of this progress is the cutting edge VERO radiotherapy equipment which delivers precise radiation to tumors. This time lapse video shows the installation of this $6.5M machine, funded entirely through philanthropy https://vimeo.com/176217264
However, there is still much to do and our fundraising puts money in the hands of scientists who are making a difference. We really are Conquering Cancer!
In 2017 we ride in memory of Russ Cook.
