Peterborough Derailleurs

Strength in numbers has never mattered more than in the fight against cancer.

My name is Kate Siena, and I am a 47 year-old wife and mother of two. In May of 2013 I was diagnosed with advanced metastatic breast cancer. My world was shattered, the floor opened up, and I was in a free fall. I was starting on the newest drugs and it is working! The therapy is holding the cancer at bay. While I will remain in treatment for the rest of my life, I feel as though I have just been given the gift of time... and hope. My bike rides became a daily therapy and one by one several dear friends have joined me.

The Peterborough Derailleurs... TOGETHER, WE RIDE:

We are a group of friends who felt touched by Kate's diagnosis, and also moved to support her in any way we could. We all rallied around Kate and discovered something else in the process - that we all love cycling together. Our motivation and interest in this is personal - our families and friends, and some of us too, have all struggled with cancer diagnoses - but what we also discovered is that we love cycling together. It feels right and it keeps us fit and happy and healthy. Adding in our ability to support a great cause makes this feel amazing.

Melanie Buddle, Maria Beauchamp, Katherine Hill, Katie Dick, Jennifer Ross, Lainey Bates, Christy Daley, Reg Waudby, and Yvonne Foster.

We're here because we know that cancer is too big a disease to ignore. It affects everyone, maybe you, me, our parents, kids, siblings or friends. But by riding in this event we are doing something about it. We're rolling closer and closer to the end of cancer. It's an awesome triumph in a physical sense and emotionally as well.
