Since being diagnosed in July 2013 at the age of three with a rare brain tumour (ATRT), Sonja showed everyone what bravery is all about! She took cancer head on, enduring surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation and medical treatments - all the while smiling and bringing joy to all those around her. On September 16th, 2016, our beautiful warrior princess passed away peacefully and gracefully at home surrounded by her Mommy, Daddy and big brothers, Daniel and Roland.
Words can not describe the love we have for Sonja and the sadness we feel now that she is gone. Sonja and her infectious smile brought so much joy and love to all those fortunate to have known her. Though her illness robbed her of so much for half of her precious life her spirits never wavered nor did her desire to make others laugh. Sonja was indeed a gift from God, but sadly she was also needed in heaven so all we can do now is be the best people we can possibly be while on this earth so that we’ll be fortunate enough to join her one day.
TEAM SONJA represents family, friends and supporters coming together to spread awareness of the importance and need of cancer research. Sonja benefitted from treatments at the Princess Margaret when other treatments did not work. This cycling journey is our way of saying thank you and being grateful for the work and staff at PMCF that allowed us more quality time with Sonja. In addition, your support in helping us fundraise will ensure further critical research and resources for patients like Sonja and support for family and friends. Thank you in advance for your donations and helping us surpass our team goal!
This is the second year for TEAM SONJA, but it will continue as a legacy to honour our brave Warrior Princess! Please join us either by riding on our team or donating!
