Stacey Mendelson is doing the Ride to Conquer Cancer
Hello friends and family!
Welcome to my Personal Page! This year my partner David Soberman and I have decided to do the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer in memory of his late wife and my friend Shelley Steiner. Shelley passed in May 2015 after a difficult battle with lung cancer. She was an Olympic athlete, a lawyer, a mother, a daughter, a sister and a wife. Shelley was also a non smoker.
I am trying to raise awareness of the changing face of lung cancer. I lost 2 friends to this vicious disease in 2015; both women in their 50's, both physically fit and non-smokers. This diagnosis is often missed by doctors who assume that shortness of breath and chest pain is asthma. My goal is to encourage women to self-advocate and insist on a chest X-ray if their symptoms persist for more than 1 month.
We will be riding 230km from Montreal to Quebec City over 2 days in July to benefit the Segal Cancer Centre at the Jewish General Hospital. It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, my helmet, and your generosity, a real impact will be made.
Contribute to this history-making event with a donation. Funds raised in The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer will support breakthrough research, exemplary teaching, and compassionate care at the Jewish General Hospital. I will persist in my journey to educate the public on the symptoms and changing patient profile and advocate for the early diagnosis of lung cancer.
Wishing you and yours a wonderful summer.
