Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Bruno Bernucci and I am a medical doctor in practice for 27 years. I am a family physician and pride myself in having rather close relationships with my patients. By this I mean that I like to consider myself as a participant is all facets of the patient’s care even when most of the treatments are conducted by a specialist. Patients very much appreciate this and this creates the close ties I am talking about. However, at times, this makes my job that more difficult.
How do I mean? Let me explain.
When it comes to cancer I obviously play a secondary role in terms of the medical treatments. The direct care givers are the oncologists, the radiotherapists, and sometimes the surgeons. Frequently, however the patient will come to me with questions and concerns. There are few medical conditions that create the anguish, fear and insecurity experienced by the patient as cancer. My role is to appease and encourage and whereas this is easier for cancers that are curable or with good prognosis to this day I am torn apart by the sense of desperation and fear that I see in the patient’s eyes when cancers offer poor prognoses. I must keep a strong and professional appearance but deep down I cannot even imagine what goes through the patient’s mind. Let us not forget the pain that is also felt by the patient’s family which suffers alongside.
This will be my third riding for this noble cause. It is comforting me to know that I will go the extra mile for my patients as well as for all persons affectedby this devastating condition
This is my motivation to do the ride to ‘conquer cancer’.
We need the money to fund the research necessary to find treatments that offer cures or improve prognosis and quality of life. We need new and better technologies for earlier detection. We need more care givers. The moneys are needed to implement proper patient support programs and offer the hope so vital for the patients.
Please donate generously to the cause and help me go the extra mile(s) for my cancer patients…for all cancer patients
