Welcome to my Personal Page - Rene Habel
The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer is a cycling journey through Quebec's countryside - which I am embarking on to fight cancer. I want to make a difference, a gesture to conquer Cancer.
I had arterial blockages in my heart in January 2009. I had to do something ... I lost 105 pounds in 20 months ... What I had was under my control. In 2009, one of my best friends Mei-Lin Yee had a diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer. Since the diagnosis, she has been a patient at the Segal Cancer Center. In February 2014, she announced that she was finally in remission. It was not even conceivable that this could happen back in 2009. The world class care that the professionals at the Centre provided her was the driving force behind her ride to conquer cancer. This cycling journey and fundraising is one small thing I can do to support her ride to beat Cancer. I am also making this ride because cancer is a terrible disease that affected my friends, my family and it could hit all of us in the face as well. I am making this ride in memory of my mother in law Gilberte Boilard, my uncles André Habel and Michel Demers, my work colleagues and friends Martine Moreau and France Belanger.
In order to create my teams, I always favoured my employers. In 2011, I created the Masonite - Celco team (St-Romuald), from 2012 to 2015, I motivated and managed the CCM Hockey team (Ville St-Laurent) and since 2016, I started and I am managing the Tafisa team (Lac Mégantic). During my 6 years as a captain, my teams raised more than $ 415,000 to conquer Cancer.
I hope that with my involvement, if someone in my family gets sick, that person would get back healthy thanks to research being done on cancer. At first I was doing it for Mei-Lin. Now I'm doing it for my whole family.
Thank you in advance for your help.
