***Play a heroic role with me in the journey to conquer cancer!***
WOW!!! On this day, Saturday, July 16th, 2016, within 1 week following the 2016 Ride weekend, my collection of lovely people matched my personal donation of $250 for the 2017 Ride in a series of morale boosting donations, and helped me reach the required minimum $2500 fundraising goal... for my 2017 Ride!!!
I will continue to fundraise and I have increased my overall goal because it would mean that much more will be directed towards conquering cancer. All donations are welcome...big, small and in between. In the meantime, WOOOW....and THANK YOU!!!!
The 2016 Ride presented added challenges of extreme wet weather conditions but the exceptional camaraderie and support structure of our ID300 team and the Ride organization's dedicated services throughout the weekend event helped see us all through to the finish line one way or another. So, right after crossing the finish line with my team in 2016....I once again included in my celebration the registering for my seventh Ride in a row for 2017!
A BIG and sincere thank you to everyone who has supported me these last 6 years with donations and moral support. You have helped me and my team collectively raise over $241,175 since our first rider took on the challenge. My fundraising contribution is over $20,000 and growing. We have seen first-hand how the funds we raise have been making significant differences with the expanded research capabilities that have identified swifter detection methods, and more efficient and effective treatments that lead to remission and even a cure to certain forms of cancer. Our fundraising has also allowed for the evolving development of support services for patients and survivors, and also excellent awareness and prevention programs. I am blessed to have met with survivors who also participate in the Ride and who have shared their stories of how earlier detection and new treatment protocols saved their life…and now they are riders too and actively help continue with the positive momentum and good results.
This is a big commitment, however, there are many meaningful reasons inspiring me to make it work so I can ride yet again. My seventh Ride will continue to be primarily dedicated to my exceptional dad...who taught me how to ride a bike! 2016 marked 12 years(!) since he passed away. He continues to be my big inspiration to keep working on the complete package of healthy mind, body and soul with a lively dose of humor too to especially help with the more challenging moments. I would be so happy to know that my efforts played a part in allowing more people the added precious time with their loved ones.
In addition, as of April 21st 2015, I will ride in loving memory of my mama who was one of my best supporters and cheerleaders of my "marathonio".
My Ride is also dedicated with the hope of finding a solid cure for those rare and sneaky liquid cancers that introduce themselves so unexpectedly or that linger awhile before showing what their intentions are. Lymphomas...I have you in my sights. Myeloproliferative neoplasms, big name and many facets...I am aiming for you too. In the name of my MPN support circle and the individuals in my family so very dear to me, I will ride for YOU.
So...I will very willingly take on all the intense training, and awareness and fundraising activities yet again. My adopted alter-ego, Athena...goddess of war, wisdom and strategy..., is excited to resume the journey! I look forward to continue our efforts as an exceptionally dedicated small yet big-hearted team, Intense Defense 300. All donations are immediately put to work at the Segal Cancer Centre of the Jewish General Hospital.
You too can arrange a visit to the Segal Cancer Centre facilities and see how your donations help to make a difference in finding methods of earlier detection, better treatment with more tightly targeted therapies and, yes, ever closer to a cure for all cancers.
One step closer... to the C word no longer striking fear in our hearts...to enjoying more time with our loved ones as healthy as can be.
I will, oh, so gladly do the work and you can encourage me with your generous donations!
