Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer
Dear Friends and family,
I just wanted to inform you that I have decided to participate in the 2017 Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer.
Last year the Birks team raised over $58,000 in donations for Cancer research. We cycled 230km over two days. Ours is a story of strong camaraderie, perseverance and resilience.
My personal battle with cancer
In December of 2008 I was diagnosed with stage 3 Non-Hodgkin lymphoma at the age 35. The doctors informed me that my condition was serious but treatable. Over the course of the next 11 months, I underwent an endless amount of blood tests, CT scans, PET scans, 2 bone marrow biopsies, intense chemotherapy and radiation therapy. In October of 2009, I was in the hospital undergoing a stem cell transplant. In the end, this was the treatment that saved my life. Thanks to on-going cancer research, this procedure has progressed from one that was once thought to be plagued with complications to a standard treatment for certain cancers.
My goal is to raise $2,500 and I hope you'll help me achieve it. This cause and this event are very important to me. Because of fundraising efforts such as this one, critical funds have been raised to finance breakthrough cancer research and survival rates have increased as a result.
While I was in treatment, I met people as young as 21 years old who were very sick. I met a lot cancer patients that year and unfortunately, not all them were lucky enough to have survived like me. I think about those people a lot and they will be on my mind when I do this ride.
Thank you in advance for your support and generosity.
