Welcome to the Bikus Urachus team page. We are celebrating our 5th year on the Ride, and our 5th year as the #1 community fundraising team. More importantly, some of us are also celebrating our 5th year of being cancer free!
Our team came together because we've all been affected by cancer and we decided to do something about it. Our goal is to bring visibility to all cancers, the rare ones and the not so rare ones, and to raise funds to treat and beat cancer.
Bikus Urachus emerged from cancer of the urachus. The urachus is a tube that sits behind the belly button. It is supposed to shrivel away after birth, but in very rare cases can become diseased. This is what happened to our team captain. Urachal cancer accounts for 0.2% of all bladder cancers.
Your ongoing support has motivated us to launch the PanCanadian Urachal Cancer Study - or PUCS, the world’s first urachal tumour DNA sequencing project. Funded through the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, PUCS will allow researchers to find commonalities among urachal tumours and other cancer tumours for which data is available, eventually enabling more targeted therapies for patients. Our hope is to fund more studies focused on rare cancers.

On this important 5th anniversary, we are looking to make an even bigger impression, raise more money and field our largest team.
Please join us and please donate.
Thank you in advance for your support.
