Jarrod and I are doing the ride to honor our grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends who have battled cancer, some are still with us while others, sadly are not. We ride for them and we ride for our mothers, both of whom are also cancer survivors.
Jarrod's mom, Deb, was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2004 after 7 years of dealing with misdiagnoses ranging from asthma to reflux. Within 2 weeks of finding out she had a carcinoid tumor she was admitted to hospital to have the right middle lobe of ther lung removed. Deb, a non-smoker, survives her mother, grandfather, and 2 aunts that have all died from lung cancer.
My mom, Nora, has now faced cancer 3 times in her life. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in her 40's where she endured a mastechtomy and chemotherapy. 18 years later the cancer returned, this time in her leg. She had to have a partial femur and hip replacement which was an extremely painful surgery that required her to learn how to sit, stand and walk again. 2 years ago a routine scan showed the cancer has returned to her bones. She is currently on a chemotherapy regiment to slow the progression of tumors throughout her body; for her, the fight continues.
Jarrod and I have begun training for the ride and although we know it won't be easy, we are determined. We know the funds this ride will raise to fight cancer will make a difference. We will ride in honor of our friends, family and our moms to help one day conquer cancer.
Please consider donating to our team, we can't do this without you! And hey, why not join our team...we'd love to have you come along on the ride!
