Welcome to my Personal Page - Frank Symons
I have started my training for the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer
Because of past supporters and you I have been able to participate in an inspiring cycling journey. It is an incredible feeling knowing together we are contributing to the work of finding a cure for cancer.
With the support of my family, friends, and colleagues I am back in the saddle to participate in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer (August 12th & 13th , 2017). The Ride is a 220km cycling journey along the majestic Canadian Rockies in support of the Alberta Cancer Foundation's search to find a cure for cancer.
To be eligible to ride I need to raise a minimum of $2,500 or more to fight cancer in honor of those past and present who have faced or are courageously fighting this horrific disease. It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, my helmet, a tougher butt, and your generosity a real impact will be made! Note donations go to research and services immediately when received.
Seriously, we all know someone who has fought cancer. My parents, including my father in law have died of this horrific disease. In my family Garry, Elda, Donna, Sylvia and Bill and friends Ed, Dorothy, and Grace are survivors of cancer. Also we have lost some very dear friends to cancer our thoughts are for Glyn, Peter, Fred, Pam, Lorne, Dolores, Sheila, David, Oma Wiens, David M.,Simon and Jean.
Some very special people this year and a few years ago – Lisa, Rosa, Jennifer, Adrianna, Barb, Mark, Cathy K, Mila and Doug were diagnosed with cancer and our thoughts and prayers are with them as they continue to courageously beat cancer. These survivors are indeed an inspiration to me and I am honoured to ride for them.
It is with great sadness that I let you know my sister in law Cathy lost her 5 year battle with cancer in August 2014.
Also as many know, Jarrid my 28 year old godson, a father of two young children who had been fighting a rare sarcoma orphan cancer since 2010 lost his battle in March 2013.
We continue to honour Jarrid’s memory, incredible spirit, passion and support for others to find a cure for cancer. Jarrid’s Team was created to ride in the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer. The team also honours many other family and friends who have been affected by cancer. If you would like to join Jarrids Team let me know.
Certainly each of us have family, friends, work colleagues and neighbours that are special to us that have been affected by cancer. The bottom line is, unfortunately, cancer is a terrible disease that affects us all and we must continue to find ways to conquer cancer and find a cure.
Did you know every 3 minutes cancer picks a fight with a Canadian??
This cycling journey, I know, will bring us one more step closer to finding a cure. For those fighting cancer this ride will ensure that they can fight back with all the means required for them to win and live through the treatment in a dignified and effective way. It will give us the opportunity that we all need, in an age where cures can happen, "to pay it forward" and beat cancer.
Respectfully I am asking you to donate whatever you can to support finding a cure for cancer. Funds raised in The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer will support breakthrough research, exemplary teaching, and enhanced compassionate care made possible by the Alberta Cancer Foundation, a leader in cancer care.
