Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer
I thought the 2016 Ride to Conquer Cancer may be my last one. After six years of fundraising and training, I thought I should perhaps 'retire'. But right after the Ride in August, the dealership where I bought my new vehicle donated $500 to the 2017 Ride. I was going to have to ride again! Then my phone started ringing and emails came in requesting my driving services. I realized that I had a source of ongoing fundraising starting right after the previous Ride. My fundraising is a year round thing. I am out at least one day a week with Alvina, my wonderful 83 year old lady client, helping her with Dr's appointents, grocery shopping and banking. I have already delivered two cars to Palm Springs for clients with winter homes down there, and one to Vancouver. I will do a fourth delivery back up to Calgary from Palm Springs as soon as there is a break in the weather. My home-away-from-home is still the cell phone parking lot at Calgary Airport where I wait to collect clients after their adventures! "Text when you have your bags, and I will be round to door 5 in 5 minutes!" I even did a pick up and a drop off at the new International Terminal the day it opened!
I did some designated driving for a Christmas party recently. I am happy to take you to your functions and make sure you get home safely at the end of the evening!
I am pleased to say that I am a member of the 'Tom Baker Cancer Conquerers' team. Every dollar that this team raises comes back to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre from the Alberta Cancer Foundation to fund much needed clinical trials. This is especially important to me because I am fortunate enough to have generous sponsors from all over the world. Many have donated to all six Rides I have participated in. The clinical trials at the TBCC benefit the global community. Everyone who donates to my Ride could potentially benefit from the amazing research going on here in Calgary.
Let us not forget the bigger picture. Why do we do this? We do it because every day in Alberta alone, 43 people will hear the words, "You have cancer." I can't even imagine what the numbers are worldwide. I am very fortunate to be able to ride alongside Drs, researchers, oncologists, cancer nurses, sufferers, survivors and caregivers. This disease knows no bounds and must one day become spoken about in the past tense.
Please contact me if you need help in any way, driving or otherwise. I also do catering, ironing, snow shovelling or babysitting......I have excellent references!
I really look forward to seeing your name on my fundraising roster. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
